DEMOGRAPHICS - County Death Rates

County death rates rose steadily from 1980 to 2011. Honolulu experienced the greatest increase, rising 49 percent. Hawai'i experienced a 27 percent increase in its death rate while Kaua'i and Maui experienced increases of 21 percent and 13 percent, respectively. These increases are a reflection of the increasing proportion of elderly in the population.
