Massage Therapists:
In 2007, there were 5,681 licensed massage therapists
practicing in Hawai'i, or 443 massage therapists per 100,000
residents. Since 1991, the number of massage therapists
per capita has quadrupled statewide. The highest ratio
was in Maui County (860 per 100,000 residents), and the
lowest was in Honolulu (339 per 1,000 residents).
Native Hawaiian Health Practitioners:
Traditional Hawaiian healing practices are performed by
Native Hawaiian health practitioners. Under section 453-2(c)
of the Hawai'i Revised Statutes, these practitioners are
exempt from state licensure. Therefore, reliable statistics
regarding their numbers and distribution are not available.
